ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND AREAS OF EXPERTISE
Polymer
. Developed polymer systems for use in solid rocket propellants, liners, insulations and adhesives,
developed catalysts for epoxy resins and thermally stable resins and developed casting resin
formulations for commercial use.
Conceived and developed a new environmentally clean Plastisol type propellant that is
extremely safe to make, use and dispose of if necessary. This propellant has the same
performance capability as the solid propellant used in the Shuttle boosters. It is significantly easier
to make than the shuttle booster propellant.
Conceived, developed and patented a clean, environmentally friendly propellant for inflating
automobile air bags. The propellant produces a larger volume of gas (consisting of water, carbon
dioxide and nitrogen) per unit weight than do the currently used air bag inflator propellants. It also
generates no solids in the gas stream, unlike the current propellant, eliminating the need for a
filter.
Conceived and developed an electrically controlled environmentally clean solid rocket
propellant for use in small end burning steering rockets and gas generator devices. These motors
can be remotely controlled electrically to repeatedly start and stop as well as vary their
combustion rates and thrust.
Analytical
Operated IR, UV, NMR, GLC, TLC, DTA, DSC, potentiometric titrimeter, vapor
phase osmometer, fluorescence spectrophotometer, and scintillation counters in support of
research and analytical procedure development at Aerojet and Universities.

Water Purification
Developed buffered ion exchange processes for demineralizing brackish, tertiary waste and
heavy metal wastewaters for both Aerojet and ET Materials, LLC.
Evaluated adsorptive resins for application to the removal of halocarbon solvents from
groundwater at Aerojet.
Developed and patented an eco-friendly water softening process which does not generate
waste for disposal. The regenerant is recycled and the hardness is removed and collected as a
granular solid, which primarily has the composition of limestone.
Waste Disposal
Developed process for clarifying industrial waste streams for deep well disposal.
State spokesperson for asbestos disposal with Department of Health Services, Hazardous
Waste Management.
Radiochemical
Studied radiochemistry at University of the Pacific, generated radioactive isotopes using
neutron source, performed radiochemical separation of radioactive isotopes, measured half-lives
for decay and helped map background radiation for Civil Defense while at University of the Pacific
and in U. S. Army.
MILITARY EXPERIENCE
Served two years in the Army Chemical Core conducting research on field x-ray units and
worked to develop radiation sensitive compounds at the Army Medical Research Labs at Fort
Knox, KY. Also isolated heavy metal nuclides from urine and feces collected from personnel at
Alamogordo, NM.
PATENTS AND PUBLICATIONS
Coauthored over twenty patents in the area of propellants, epoxy catalysts, and water
treatment.
Authored two theses: M.S. thesis, “Improved preparations and photolysis studies
of triarylmethanedye leucocyanides”; and Ph.D. thesis, “The role
of nucleophilic substituents in solvolytic reactions of
substituted benzyl and benzhydryl bromides”.
AWARDS
Received the “RB Young Technical Innovation Award” for the development of the cooled
metalradome and the “Gencorp Aerojet Technical Achievement Award” for the development of
the A3L Solid Solution Propellant.
